Wilshire-Riverside wins 10-11 District Tournament

Wilshire Riverside defeated St. Helens for the second time in as many games to win the District 1 11/12 Tournament at Riverside. Wilshire-Riverside's bats started out strong to score 10 runs in the first two innings with everyone contributing. Although St. Helens scored in the later innings to make make it close, Wilshire-Riverside scored a convincing 14 - 9 victory for the district crown. Congratulations to Pat Hoglund, John McAllister and Stu Hudson for leading the team to victory.

Wilshire-Riverside Sweep in TOC

For the second straight year, Wilshire-Riverside swept the TOC. On Wednesday, Cascade 205 PT beat Penninsula 12 -11 in 15 innings to take the Majors crown. On Thursday, Fisherman's Marine and Outdoor defeated Rose City 5-4 in 7 innings. The Majors final was a game for the ages. Cascade scored four runs to take a 8-4 lead into the bottom sixth only to see Penninsula come back to tie the game. At one point, Penninsula was down to their last out when a home run to left center tied the game. Finally, in the 15th inning, Cascade scored a run to take the lead and was able to shut down Penninsula for the win. Overall, it was an incredible performance by both teams both at the bat and in the field. For photos of the game, see the tournament page.

In Thursday's game, Fisherman's M&O scored a run in the bottom of the 7th inning to edge out Roseway Theatre. Congratualtions to both teams for a great season.

The game between Pennisula Brooks Staffing and Cascade 205 was halted by rain after the top of 4th inning. Cascade had just scored 2 runs to take a 2-1 lead when the umpire called for the tarps. 50th Anniversery Celebration

On Saturday, May 15th, we will be celebrating the 50th anniversery of Riverside Field. It was 50 years ago that presidential candidate, John F. Kennedy, threw out the first pitch to inaugurate Riverside Field. This year, we will be celebrating with a series of special events including a special guest first pitch and, following our 4:30 game, home run derby, accuracy throw contest and raffle. There will be food from the grill, Alameda Brewhouse root beer floats, music by Satisfied Minds and a beer garden for parents and former players. This event is sponsored by Friends of Riverside Ballpark LLC.

Opening Day Set for April 3rd

Opening Day is just around the corner. Be sure to come down to Riverside Field on Saturday, April 3rd for the annual pancake breakfast and opening day ceremonies. Breakfast, featuring pancakes, sausages, coffee and juice, begins at 7:30 and will continue until 9:30. Opening day ceremonies, including the "Running of the Bases" will begin at 9:45 am. First pitch is at 11:00 am.

This year is particulary historic because we will be celebrating the 50th Anniversery of the opening of Riverside Field - which was honored by a first pitch from John F. Kennedy during his 1960 presidential campaign. We will be having a special 50th Anniversery Celebration later in the year. Stay tuned for more information.
